Wow. What a total moron. Apparently it hasn't occurred to him that conditions are perfect for the de-funding of all new space research, or at least de-funding manned spaceflight.

Which could be a very bad thing. As shaky as NASA is, I think manned spaceflight is a huge part of the American can-do self image, and that self image can only help us recover from this mess. Putting spaceflight on hold for the duration of the economic crisis may make fiscal sense--it almost certainly does--but I think it'd be a hit on morale.

I think NASA needs a reboot a la Battlestar Galactica or the new Star Trek movie, but I still want there to be a NASA, and I think this guy's ego has so thoroughly squashed his imagination that he can't see the real danger the space agency is in.
